Universal Design

February 2, 2024

Recently I gave a talk internally at Parabol about the concept of Universal Design. It's a very interesting and practical framework for building things that will be used by people.

I first heard of this concept from Laura Kalbag's book Accessibility for Everyone. I highly recommend you check it out. In short, Universal Design is the design of products to be usable by all people to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.

On this talk, I go over the basic principles of Universal Design, some real-world examples, and then I go over some ideas of how we can adopt this approach to the work with do in the digital space.

The video is 38 minutes long, and if you bear to hear me talk for that long, I think it'd be worth your time.

Thanks for watching!
